GAMEmason was born from an idea that students at GMU who were into gaming should have an event that was for and about them. We wanted to create an opportunity to allow students to collaborate and learn from one another, but also to provide everyone with a way to meet, greet, and connect with people who have similar interests, have fun, and show off their skills!
In it’s first year, GAMEmason started as a 1-day event that reached around 600 students. We had a handful of arcade games, ed sessions from GMU Game Design faculty and industry influencers in Esports, game design, and voice acting, and esports and tabletop tournaments.
GAMEmason 2025 will feature guest speakers from the industry; panel discussions and learning labs featuring community members, performers, and student leaders from Mason; free arcade play; tabletop and console gaming and tournaments; vendor and artist alley featuring work by Mason students and community vendors and businesses from across the game industry, new makerspace, lots of activities, live music, an outdoor movie and more! This year our esports tournaments feature a High School Esports Tournament and an all day Super Smash Bros Ultimate Open Tournament.
